Today we went shopping. We've put off buying most souvenir type things and so we went today. The girls had fun and were pooped from all of the walking. I carried HG in the backpack for the majority of the day, but she did some walking too and went right to sleep tonight (she let me hold her until she was out again).
heading out with the Mickey Mouse shaped paleta, uva/grape flavored
Back at the house and before dinner, HV, HM and myself began making the little notes that we will put in the little presents for HG to open every day while we are gone. The girls had fun doing them, but were ready to be done after doing about 5 each. Oh I wish it were going to be that quick! We'll begin wrapping tomorrow (we're talking little things, like a lollipop) and will have the bag of goodies ready soon.
If you've been to Guatemala, you know that there are lots of street dogs. Well, the other night we had LOTS of leftover noodles and by the time I got around to cleaning the kitchen that night, they were all stuck together (I had too many noodles for the size of pan/pot I was using). I threw them all in the trash and then I remembered those doggies. I pulled them all out and put them in a bag. We had some leftover bread and I put that in there too. Last night, I cooked some chicken breasts for our dinner but had to cut off the fatty part. I added it to the bag. So, when we headed out today, we took our bag of "dog food." We came upon the first doggie, a black one, but he wasn't interested in what I poured out and kept on his way. We then found another one, laying in the middle of the walkway. People walked by and he never moved. HV spotted him first and I was honestly fearful that he was dead. I asked the girls to stand back a bit and I spoke to the doggie, saying "Hello, little doggie" while I rattled my bag. His head popped up and I poured a generous helping of bread, noodles, chicken, weenies (I forgot to mention those too) out on the ground. He devoured it. I didn't want to give him more because I was fearful he would vomit. So, we found another little skinny guy on the same sidewalk and he got the rest. HV told me that we were doing the right thing by feeding these dogs. She told me that God tells us to take care of His creatures and we did that today. She's right. She told me we would be blessed for doing it and I know she's right with that too. I know we only made a difference in the lives of 3 little doggies (I know the black one didn't eat his portion, but I'm sure another one came along and ate it for sure), but when we passed the first doggie that ate while we watched, HV commented how he looked like he was sleeping and feeling better than he was earlier. Nite nite, little doggie. Nite nite.
