HG and I left our apartment as the sun was rising yesterday. HV and HM were still sleeping and were going to spend the day with our friend, A. We arrived at the US Embassy at 7 a.m., getting our number for coming back at 9 a.m. We got #4. I looked through my paperwork and noticed that I was missing one form and so we made a quick trip over to RM (my attorney)'s office to get it. No problem but it take a tad bit longer than I had expected.. We got back and it was 9:05 a.m. The guard wouldn't let me in but I didn't understand him. He got the English speaking girl and she told me that I had now missed my appointment and could not enter the Embassy. I was livid. I had to walk away and calm down. Now, I should say again that I was #4 and people are seen in the order of the numbers. I should also say that the girl inside typically doesn't start seeing people until 9:30 a.m. I tried calling the Embassy, letting them know that I was there outside and demanded to be allowed to come in. I called RM and she made some calls to allow me to come in. Nada. Around 9:45 a.m., I saw the girl in front of me (#2--I was actually #3 but they lost the card with #3 and so while my card said #4, I was actually #3--confused yet?). So, I went around to the English speaking girl again and said that I just saw the #2 person come out and so what she told me earlier--that #1 and #2 had already been seen and were gone--was untrue. She then said that I could go in and go to window #3, American Citizens Services. I went there and she told me to go to window #6-#8. I went to the only one without a line. I told her what happened and I actually did tell a lie (and I did ask for forgiveness too)--I told her that we were 5 minutes because HG had to go to the bathroom. She told me I could come back "for" 1 p.m. at Window 5 and see someone then. Well, I wasn't "coming back for 1 p.m." I refused to leave the building. HG was so tired. She began screaming and crying as we sat in the 50 or so chairs, room packed full of people. She needed/wanted to go to sleep and yet she didn't want to do so (think 2 year old behavior here and tantrum). There are announcements made over the loud speaker periodically, giving the numbers and to what window they should report. Then, I hear an announcement that I don't fully understand (in spanish) but I had a strong feeling it was directed at me. Since I didn't move, a woman in the room that spoke English came over to me and said, "Do you speak Spanish?" I replied that I only spoke a little spanish. She then said, "Well, that announcement was about you and said that you either need to get your baby to be quiet or you need to leave." I asked her where I was supposed to go and she said she didn't know but only repeated what he said. Needless to say, I wasn't leaving. I did stand up with HG and she did quiet down. We waited for 3 hours and I was the first one for Window 5 at 1 p.m. The girl at the window told me I needed to come back tomorrow. I told her no, I was here today, followed their directions, and I insist and demand that she take my paperwork. She made a call and then came back saying the same thing. I told her that was unacceptable and I needed to speak to her supervisor. Now, I've talked to her supervisor twice in the last week. She calls the supervisor and comes back to the window, telling me to have a seat and I would be called to the Window #10 closet. We wait about 10 minutes and around 1:30 p.m., we were called into the closet. She took my papers and went in the other room to examine them. Everything is in order but she needed some different paperwork on my attorney AND she wanted my attorney, RM, to come in to submit the papers so that they could see her in person and match the photos she submitted. RM will be doing that tomorrow/Thursday. I have been bugging this department at the Embassy to go ahead and schedule the DNA appointment. We'll see if they will do it but I guess one step at a time. After leaving the Embassy, I went back to RM's office to give her the stuff that needs to be corrected. My other attorney, DG, suggested that we go to the Family Court while we were in the City. We barely made it before they closed, but we did it. The social worker told me how good HG looked and how happy she seemed with me. She said that HG's case had gone on long enough and that she would write the report this week and DG could pick it up on Monday. Whew! I didn't even have to make a donation to her to get this to happen. Yeah! Now, of course she hasn't done the report yet but it's not Monday yet either. So, we will see what happens. I pray that she holds true to her word and will indeed complete the report by Monday. Please pray for that too.
HG and I then went to Hiper Paiz (think Super WalMart) and picked up some groceries. HG was an absolute zombie by the time we got home and didn't wiggle much in the night at all.
We're having dinner with our neighbors tonight and so I just finished baking the brownies. I think we will get some ice cream before dinner and have a sundae tonight after our spaghetti dinner. Yummy! You guys KNOW I'll be eating a small portion of spaghetti in order to save room for that. I'll try to take some pictures of the fun and post later!
