According to the comments I've received about my rooster neighbor, he isn't supposed to just crow in the morning. So, I guess we'll learn to tune him out after a while. HV still asks on occasion if we could eat him for supper! :) I guess we are just city girls.
HM is 6 years and 3 months old. She potty trained at like 22 months and so it's been a LONG time since I've dealt with diapers. Guatemalan diapers, in my opinion, fit worse than American diapers even though HG is currently wearing Huggies. As the sizes get bigger, they just seem to get longer but nothing else. The XXL which she wears now (the biggest in the store) needs to come up to her chest in order to fit properly between her legs. Anyway, I'm used to the girls telling me when they need to go to the bathroom and I don't always think/remember to change the diaper. This afternoon, we headed out to Parque Central to do some browsing (J gave each of the girls a few dollars to buy something which we exchanged into quetzales the other day). The girls have been looking for THE best thing to buy. Since they have been such good helpers, I bought their necklaces today (Q20 and Q30) and then we had a late lunch/early supper at Mono Loco, a restaurant we pass going to the pool. We have eaten here in the past and I remember it being good and so when they asked me the other day if we could eat out for dinner sometime soon, I told them that we would on Saturday. We had probably been gone from the house for about an hour or so before getting to the restaurant. The food is good but the service is a bit slow--the place was super crowded and I'm sure that had something to do with it. We ended the meal by sharing a brownie sundae and stood up to leave. HG's shorts were completely wet. Completely. So, off to the bathroom which, of course, doesn't have a changing table. Remember, I'm out of practice with the ol' diapers and so I can't put it on very well with HG standing which was my only choice. HV was horrified that I was going to put HG back in the stroller with no pants on but there's no way I could put those things back on her. So, off we went with just a diaper-clad girlie wearing a shirt. My bad. I forgot to change the darned diaper! Oh well. I'm sure I'll remember better next time. In sharing this story with J, she asked me how are we going to begin potty training HG. I told her that I was quite certain that HG doesn't realize that we all aren't wearing diapers. Yesterday when HV took her swim bottoms off, HG put them in the trash, just like I have her do with her diapers. I told J that I am going to start taking HG into the bathroom with me so that she can watch me go. I'll ask the girls to do the same. I have a potty chair here, but she is CLUELESS that people aren't wearing diapers! Pumping her full of liquids to get her to need to go is not a problem. I just need to start with some awareness with her, I think. If you have any other ideas, please share!
My two dressed girlies and my little one with just the shirt and the diaper. Again, HG smiles ALL of the time. When I try to the take her picture, this is the face she gives me. Oh, and no, the stroller doesn't work well on the cobblestone streets. A jogging stroller would be much better but this is the stroller I bought when I thought HG was going to be able to go live with A last year. I'll go back to using the backpack as HG's main transportation source for sure!
On our way home, we ran into HA's sister, AJ, at the Parque Central. Today they are doing some sort of Telethon and so all of the streets around the park are closed for drivers. People were everywhere. AJ's school class was doing a fundraiser, selling some marshmallow flowers for Q5.
HM hiding behind the marshmallow flowers we bought.
I bought the girls each one and they ate it when we had our movie night--all 4 of us piled on my and HG's bed watching a portable DVD player. Tonight's choice? Shrek 2. Last weekend was Monsters Inc.
We did nothing this morning except a load of laundry. HG is worn out and so she took a nap while HM and HV played in their room. She slept on my chest and so I dozed a little too. Good bonding experience for us.
Tomorrow we are going to an English speaking church. I'll let you know how it goes. HM wanted to know if we could have communion there. I told her I wasn't sure how this church works so we will see.
Later, my friends.

we are just in the middle of potty training Carmen (aged 2.5 now) and the mental but is so important i think - we brought her to the bathroom with us for a while and explained that this is what big girls do! and only babies use nappies (diapers) we also give her a treat for each and every time she goes, 1 for number 1 and 2 for number 2 :) (just a very small gummy type sweet) that seems to be a big motivator! not healthy long term, but it's only a short term measure to get us going well - oh and we make a BIG deal when she does 'go' in the potty/toilet and sing and dance :) who cares what anyone else thinks!! she loves this and this helps too - at the moment she has been out of nappies for 2/3 weeks in the daytime ( few accidents but nothing awful) and we are keeping her in nappies at nightime (and on the plane journeys!) as we can't imagine dealing with a soiled hotel crib :} we will do night time after we get home again - if you want we will do the peepee dance for you when we meet ;) and Carmen could provide peer pressure :) oh and a dora potty training book is a favourite too (although not entirely necessary really)
ReplyDeleteand we bought her some Big Girl Knickers with Dora on them and made a BIG deal of giving them to her an putting them on for the first time (after a successful 'go' in the potty)
see you soon :) xx
