Is he blind?

We can't see him, but our neighbors (not in our apartment complex but in the lot next to us) have a rooster. The girls and I have decided that he must be blind. He crows all day long, beginning at about 3 a.m. The sun comes up at 5:30 a.m. here so he's a bit early. Even at this hour (8:30 a.m.), he's still crowing away, about once every 30-45 seconds. He doesn't stop until about mid-afternoon. I don't know much about roosters, but he seems a bit excessive! :) Our other thought is that he is kept in the dark and has no idea what time it is but just starts making noise when the "city sounds" pick back up. His "voice" isn't even very strong (thank goodness) and the end of the "Cock-A-Doodle-Doo" trails off a bit. Thank goodness for that (and for HM's white noise maker that we use when sleeping). We keep hoping that he will lose his voice, but I doubt it. Crazy Gallo!

  1. Ha! The roosters in my neighborhood crow all day long. In fact when I am outside in the evening I think that they crow even more than in the morning. I must say after living here for 4 years though I very rarely hear them anymore. It is like I got used to it. Someone told me that roosters crow for other reasons too like to communicate their territory, communicate to other roosters or hens, etc. I think they just crow whenver they like too!
