Back in January 2009, we began discussing with the girls about playing softball. Neither of them had played before and we thought it would be a good experience for them both. HV told me that she didn't think this was a good idea. I told her if she could come up with a logical reason why shouldn't play, I would listen. So, both girls were signed up to play. At the end of the season, both girls received a small trophy and so it was a positive experience for both of them.
HV played "minors" fast pitch softball on the Angels team. Most of the girls had played before and had played together before. This year, however, was the first time that girl/team member was the pitcher. Most 9-10 year old girls aren't strong enough or skilled enough to pitch accurately, but they tried. Even though the Angels never won a game, they did improve throughout the season.
HM played tball on the Giants team. She was 1 of 3 girls on the team. Even though she had not played before, she was at the top of the age bracket and so she had skills that others did not. They don't keep score in tball but HM was excited about getting the other kids out when she could!
Last week I received an email from HM's coach, asking if she would like to play on the All Stars team. She was thrilled and said yes! It appeared that each team selected 4 players to participate. At the conclusion of the game, each player received a medal! How exciting! Then, the coaches for each team selected an MVP. HM was selected as the MVP for the South Side Team (named such because they were the dugout on the South side of the field)! She got the game ball! We explained MVP to her, but all she kept repeating was that SHE WAS A STAR! You're right, little mama. You are a star!
